Configuring Outlook Express 6 for Internet Safety- Page 9

Although "spam" is not, strictly speaking, a security issue, it is a severe problem and does have security ramifications so we are including some anti-spam measures here. Outlook Express has a capability for setting up rules for filtering mail according to various criteria. Open the "Tools" menu and place your mouse on "Message Rules". A sub-menu will appear as shown above. The "Blocked Senders List" allows you to prevent the delivery of mail from a particular e-mail address. Although that may keep you from receiving mail from your obnoxious second cousin, it is not much help against spammers and others who use phony addresses that are continually changed. The "News" entry is for those who use Newsgroups and will not be discussed here. We will concentrate on using rules to filter e-mail. Clicking on "Mail" opens dialog boxes discussed in the next page.
