Although many PC users like the convenience of the Preview Pane in Outlook Express, there can be a drawback to automatically making e-mail available for viewing. In the past viruses were spread by attachments but recently viruses have been written that also use the HTML code in the body of a message. These viruses can be activated simply by opening the message with no need to open any attachment. Therefore it is safer to turn off the Preview Pane. This can be done by using the "View" menu, which is shown above.

In the "View" menu, click on "Layout" and the dialog box shown on the next page will open.
